This is what in the first inquiry email from client of Italy.

Initially, we just knew that he wants to custom an acoustic guitar. We thought it may be a 41 inch guitar since this sized acoustic guitar is very popular.

However, what he advised in his following mail really gave us a great surprise. We were told that he wanted to buy baritone guitar at the beginning. But found there is no suppler to provide such kind of acoustic guitar, so, he changed his mind to customize guitar.

Then, he found us.

Custom Acoustic, We Need Specifications, So Do You

Normally, during quotation stage, if specification like tone wood, finishing, shape of body, size of guitar (40 inch or 41 inch guitar, etc.), etc., we are able to make an offer in a very short time. That means we response very quickly.

However, in this case, the acoustic guitar that the client needed is very special. For example, the width of lower bout is 43mm. The shape of the body is close to D, but it is not. The size of the body is huge, etc. Therefore, there are a lot need to discuss before quotation production.

Figure Out Specifications

Well, the client gave us some data like width, length, etc. But there are more that needed.

Firstly, we don’t know if it is a full solid acoustic guitar or solid top guitar. So, we asked, then we knew it is a solid top type.

Then, we told the client that the width of upper bout of guitar body, the overall length of the body and scale length, etc., are also necessary. To avoid any misunderstanding, it is better to advise with a drawing.

The client is very cooperative. The drawing was sent very shortly. Then, everything has moved on…

Final Thoughts

For most of time, to custom acoustic guitar is not so complicated. Especially, when clients tell us he wants to custom standard sized guitar like 40 inch guitar, 41 inch acoustic guitar or 39 inch guitar, etc., and the shape of body like D, GA, OM body or classical guitar, etc. We just simply move on to confirm decoration, parts, etc.

We have to confirm so many factors for this client, mainly because the body of the

acoustic guitar doesn’t belong to any existed. That means, the whole size of the guitar has changed.

Besides, from the headstock, we guess that you thought it is a classical guitar. Well, it is not. The guitar uses steel strings like other type of acoustic guitar. Hereby, we recommend to use carbonized Stika Spruce top instead of Cedar to bear the extreme high tension caused by the super long scale length. This is a problem that can be easily ignored.
